Poland

The Polish Ministry of Education and Science, through the Journal of Law Regulation dated 14 September 2023, has recognised Integrated Skills in English (B2, C1, and C2 CEFR levels) among the qualifications accepted for teachers to demonstrate English language proficiency. This recognition allows individuals holding ISE certificates at those levels to qualify as English teachers in Polish nurseries and primary schools.

In addition, the Ministry, through the Journal of Law Regulation dated 31 July 2025, recognises Integrated Skills in English (ISE) and ISE Digital certificates (B2, C1, and C2 CEFR levels) as official documents certifying English language proficiency for the purposes of admission to higher education institutions in Poland. The regulation entered into force on 1 August 2025. In particular, it provides for the following:

  1. University requirements: Universities are obliged to verify that non-EU applicants hold one of the officially recognised documents certifying English language proficiency. This verification is binding in admission decisions.
  2. Consular requirements: Consulates may require the presentation of such certificates when issuing study visas to candidates admitted after the regulation entered into force.
  3. External examination requirement: Only external examinations are accepted; internal university language tests are not considered valid.
