Name: Collin
Age: 6
Location: Australia
Trinity qualification: Grade 4 Violin
Collin began his violin journey at just four and a half years old under the guidance of Trevor Addison at the YSP String Academy, a centre known for nurturing young string players. From his very first lessons, Collin’s parents, Bonnie and Sean, were amazed by his enthusiasm for making and listening to music. His progress was remarkable, and within a few months, his talent became evident.
The Trinity exams have played a key role in Collin’s rapid musical and technical development. In just a year and a half, Collin successfully completed four Trinity exams, achieving Distinction at Grade 4, and is already preparing for his Grade 6. He particularly enjoys the classical music choices offered in the Trinity syllabus and often performs these pieces at home using the high-quality accompaniment audios. He is proud of his progress and loves receiving his Trinity certificates.
Collin regularly performs in concerts and events as part of the Advanced String Orchestra at The King’s School in Parramatta, where he has been a student since Pre-Kindergarten, and for the YSP String Academy. He enjoys making music with his friends in orchestras, small ensembles, and with his older sister, who plays the cello. His passion for challenging music drives him to improve continually.
Interestingly, when Collin first started learning the violin, his mum Bonnie joined him and bought a violin of her own. However, Collin’s rapid progress left her unable to keep up, and her violin now rests in its case!
Bonnie and Sean have seen Collin’s confidence soar since he began playing the violin, performing in public, and preparing for his Trinity exams. They are grateful for the structured support Trinity offers and believe it has greatly contributed to their son’s positive attitude and growth as a young musician.
“Trinity exams have been key to Collin's confidence and growth as a young musician” – Bonnie and Sean, Collin's parents
