I volunteered for Cancer Research’s Race for Life as part of a Customer Success department staff initiative at Trinity. A few of us thought it would be a great idea to come together as a team and volunteer for a good cause. Two colleagues led the way in finding a suitable opportunity and Race for Life turned out to be the perfect fit.

I signed up to be a race helper on the day and it was fantastic in two big ways. First, it was brilliant to spend the day with colleagues, around 10 of us in total outside of our usual work setting. We all had loads of fun and got to know each other a bit better. Second, supporting such a meaningful and energetic event was incredibly rewarding. I had never done anything like that before and I was so pleased I did.

We helped out at the Hyde Park event on a sunny Sunday, surrounded by thousands of participants. The atmosphere was amazing, such high energy, with fantastic runners in all kinds of outfits and costumes. Hearing the stories behind why people were running was so touching. It felt amazing to be part of something so positive, all while giving back and strengthening our team too. I’d jump at the chance to do it again!

Anyone looking to volunteer for the first time, I would advise them to jump in! Look for opportunities that are already organised, like our team volunteering, which makes it easy to get involved. It’s such a great way to do something good and connect with others. I’m already looking forward to seeing how I’ll use my Volunteer Leave this year.

I’m genuinely grateful that Trinity recognises the value of Volunteer Leave and encourages us to use it. It makes me feel proud to work somewhere that supports us in stepping away from our desks to do something meaningful for the community.
