Frequently asked questions

Trinity College London is a leading international exam board and independent education charity that has been providing assessments around the world since 1877.

Please note: Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) are only available at selected Trinity SELT centres in the UK. Registered Exam Centres cannot register to provide these. If you are interested in preparing students for SELTs, please see ‘SELT course provider application’.

Educational or cultural institutions that are Registered Exam Centres can host Trinity exams. To meet Trinity’s registration criteria an applicant must:

  • be an educational or cultural institution, and not be located at a residential property;
  • be located in a country in which Trinity provides/intends to provide exams
  • have been operating as a business for at least 12 months
  • have the relevant industry, academic or subject experience for Trinity exams
  • satisfy Trinity’s exam delivery requirements for each exam venue it wishes to register
  • be of good repute and consistent with Trinity’s brand values.

There is a relatively simple application process and there are no costs to register.

Please note: Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) are only available at selected Trinity SELT centres in the UK. Registered Exam Centres cannot register to provide these exams. If you are interested in preparing students for SELTs, please see ‘SELT course provider application’.

Please allow up to four weeks for our Centre Registration team to process your application form.

There are no registration fees or ongoing fees for Registered Exam Centres in the UK. Registered Exam Centres are charged only for the exams that they host, which may include a minimum fee.

Trinity College London charges an entry fee (EF) for its English language exams in the UK and Ireland to Registered Exam Centres.

Registered Exam Centres may then charge learners a centre fee (CF) or include the exam fee in any applicable course fees. Please see the example below:

(EF) + (CF) = Total examination fee.

Examination fees differ between the various exam suites. Entry fees (EF) are payable by the Registered Exam Centre within 30 days of booking.

Please note: Exam fees are different for Secure English Language Tests (SELTs). Please see https://www.trinitycollege.com/qualifications/SELT for further information on the price of a SELT.

On registration, Registered Exam Centres are provided with a dedicated academic and operational contact, who will be able to provide further information on the support that they can offer. Both dedicated contacts will ensure that you are confident in providing Trinity exams, prior to your first exam session.

The Language Access Fund

The Language Access Fund has been developed by Trinity College London to provide English language learning and examination grants for candidates in the UK and Ireland.

ESOL Skills for Life

Funding for ESOL Skills for Life examinations and the preparation for these is often available via the Department for Education or local authorities. We recommend that you contact your local authority to find out more about funding in your area.

Trinity's Integrated Skills in English (ISE) qualifications and Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) are recognised around the world as evidence of English language proficiency.

Trinity SELTs are Secure English Language Tests approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for Leave to Remain, British Citizenship, Work and Student visas.

SELTs cannot be provided by Registered Exam Centres and can only be taken by candidates at Trinity SELT centres in the UK.
