Trinity’s Integrated Skills in English (ISE) qualification is a contemporary multi-skills language exam designed for people who need English language skills for study. With a strong focus on real language performance and promoting the development of transferable skills for academic study and employability, ISE assesses the communicative skills needed to succeed in the 21st century.
ISE is available at five levels from A2 to C2 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and consists of two independent exam modules:
The modules can be taken together, or at different times when students are ready.*
Recognised and accepted
- ISE is a UK government-approved test for settlement and visa application purposes when taken at a Trinity SELT Centre.
- ISE is one of the accepted language tests to support the application of Study Visas for non-native speakers of English by the Irish Department of Justice
- ISE is accepted by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) as an approved English language proficiency exam for English language programmes on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP).
- ISE is accepted by a growing number of universities in the UK, Ireland and beyond as proof of English language proficiency.

Digital delivery options
Candidates are now able to take the Speaking and Listening module online with an experienced Trinity examiner via video conferencing in registered exam centres.
Formally calibrated to the CEFR
Trinity's ISE has been formally calibrated to the CEFR.
