Oluwakemi

Name: Oluwakemi (Kemi)
Background: Kemi initially came to the UK with her husband but after 30 years and a very happy marriage, Kemi’s husband passed away and she had to rethink her life in the UK.

Oluwakemi (Kemi) began her transformational journey to live in the UK after meeting her husband. Kemi was enjoying the tropical heat of Lagos in Nigeria when she met her husband, who was visiting from England, the two fell in love and began to plan their lives together.

Kemi initially came to the UK with her husband on a spousal visa but after 30 years, two children and a very happy marriage, Kemi’s husband passed away which meant she had to rethink her life in the UK. Kemi had great support around her from friends and family; a well-valued job working for the NHS as well as various caring roles and the determination to keep striving for a positive life in the UK.

She gained advice from an Immigration advisor on how she could apply to gain her British Citizenship and was directed to Excel Education, a Trinity College London Approved Service Provider for exam preparation. They supported her to complete the Trinity SELT Graded Examination in Spoken English (GESE) Grade 5 (B1) exam.

After taking the SELT exam preparation course Kemi felt well-prepared and on the day of her Trinity SELT exam she passed with flying colours:

“I was nervous but once I started talking to the examiner I relaxed and just began talking about cooking, children, day to day activities - the process was easy to understand.”

Kemi has now got her British citizenship and is very excited to take a trip back to her homeland Nigeria, to bring her daughter to the UK so they can all reunite as a family.
