A key benefit of Trinity Musical Theatre exams is the freedom of choice on offer when selecting repertoire for students to prepare for exams. This means that the exam programmes can be tailored to candidates’ individual interests and preferences. However, teachers often tell us that it is helpful to have a starting point when selecting exam pieces.
With that in mind, we have developed ready-made programmes of musical theatre songs and relevant scripts - along with music suggestions for movement - which are included in our set of new Musical Theatre Programme Example resources; available for solo exams at every grade, from Initial to Grade 8.
The wide-ranging suggestions are drawn from a variety of diverse sources, including well-loved West End musicals such as Annie, Les Misérables and West Side Story; alongside more contemporary choices such as Matilda the musical, The Colour Purple and Everyone’s Talking about Jamie.
The resources provide practical suggestions for how the pieces can be performed as part of the exam - for example, options for how movement can be incorporated as part of the candidate’s programme – along with a range of top tips to help candidates feel fully prepared ‘on the day’, whether that be face-to-face with the examiner or a recorded submission for a digital exam.
