Being Assessment-Literate: Why Should We?

Wednesday 11 December 2024, 4.00pm (UK time)

Summary

In this webinar, we'll start with exploring basic concepts of assessment, emphasizing the difference between formative and summative assessments and how we can use them appropriately. We will then critically examine the qualities that define a “good” test, focusing on its validity, reliability, practicality, and impact on teaching i.e.: washback.

Finally, we'll discuss the importance of being assessment-literate to better discuss assessment practices with stakeholders, adapt assessments to be more contextually appropriate and thus being better able to make informed decisions and teach our lessons with a more critical eye.
