Established in 2008, Language Tuition Nottingham have grown and evolved into the most specialised independent Spanish & English language and Teacher Training academy in Nottinghamshire.
Language Tuition Nottingham have been proud providers of Trinity’s Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) for over 2 years. We spoke to their Director of Studies, Marius Jackson about why they chose Trinity’s CertPT, and how it’s a great fit for their students.
Recognising a gap in the market for practical and internationally recognised qualifications between level 5 and 7, Trinity’s CertPT offered a flexible and unique solution to their students.
“This jump from level 5 to 7 is a big one, and we thought the opportunity to give teachers a meaningful interim qualification was a great idea.”
At Language Tuition Nottingham, there is no such thing as a ‘typical CertPT student’. Trinity’s CertPT is an adaptable qualification that can applied to a large spectrum of teaching contexts, making this qualification align perfectly with the broad range of teachers that Language Tuition Nottingham welcomes.
“We've chosen to run a 'communicative language teaching' specialism. This was to keep the qualification as open and relevant to as many teachers as possible. The communicative approach is at the heart of so much of our practice as language teachers, and can easily be applied and discussed in almost any context - teaching YLs, exam prep, CLIL, etc.”
A key benefit of Trinity’s CertPT is its flexibility. It can be studied online, face-to-face, or in a blended format, fitting seamlessly into a teacher’s schedule. Its immediate impact in the classroom has contributed to its popularity. Marius highlights the many ways teachers around the world have applied the CertPT in their practice.
“We’ve been offering the CertPT for about two years now, and in that time, we’ve worked with an incredibly diverse group of teachers. Some of our students have used it to prepare for the DipTESOL (Trinity’s level 7 qualification), while others are ESOL specialists or even primary teachers in Vietnam. We’ve also had Spanish language teachers, a teacher working in a prison, and educators from various other backgrounds.”
Language Tuition Nottingham are also proud providers of Trinity’s level 5 qualification, CertTESOL – and find that these students wish to continue their professional development with a CertPT – at Language Tuition Nottingham, a testament to the school and the level of teaching offered.
“Students seem to like the experience of training with us, so often want to continue their progression with us - which is about as positive feedback as we can dream of as teacher trainers!”
One of the most rewarding aspects of offering the CertPT for Language Tuition Nottingham has been working with resettled Ukrainian and Hong Kongese teachers in the East Midlands. Through a project funded by Flying Cows, they’ve helped these educators gain valuable qualifications that support their integration into new teaching environments.
If you’re considering furthering your teaching career, the CertPT could be the perfect next step for you. Language Tuition Nottingham would love to help you on your journey and take pride in knowing that many of their graduates go on to apply their skills in impactful ways.
