Name: Ailish Mae Steele

Nominated by: James Milgate-Scarrott, Teacher

I have been teaching Ailish for nearly 6 years now. I started her first flute lesson in September 2017 and I have been so impressed with her talent, ability, musicianship and dedication to her music. Ailish has achieved a distinction in every Trinity exam she has taken.

She took her Grade 1 (June 2018) in under a year of playing the flute and achieved an amazing 100/100 mark. She has had amazing comments from her examiners in every exam she has taken.

Her other grades are;

  • Grade 2 (March 2019) 98/100
  • Grade 3 (July 2019) 92/100
  • Grade 5 (March 2020) 89/100
  • Grade 7 (July 2021) 89/100
  • Grade 8 (June 2022) 94/100

Music has become a big part of her life and she has grasped every part and strived for every goal. She is currently in year 9 and plays Principal Flute in Stafford Grammar School Orchestra, Concert Band and Competition Band. Also principal Flute in Entrusts Wind band's for Stafford and Cannock and from 2022 she has been a part of the National Children Orchestra. She is currently looking at what to aim for next.

What Ailish says about her musical learning:

I love to play the flute, it’s something I can’t live without. During lockdown, it made things feel more normal when I played and played and played. I love to take part in music ensembles at school and in my community. I am starting a flute group for the younger players at my school. I want to go as far as I can with my flute studies but most of all I want to share my music with everyone and make them feel happy, like I do when I play the flute.
