Zayn took his Grade 3 after playing the saxophone for little over 1 year. (His music literacy was minimal to begin with). He was 15 years old at the time of his exam. Not only did he achieve 96% (21 for each of his pieces) but I believe that his 'own composition' was of a particularly high standard showing creativity, maturity and understanding of both instruments and the melodic and harmonic language.
